Head to the Hills 7 is here!

Don't miss your chance to experience the East Bay Hills. If you have not read the riding tips, please do so now. This will at least tell you how the rest of us will be riding even if you do already know how to ride in the hills.

Friday April 25 - Meet at The First and Last Chance Bar located at 30 Jack London Square, Oakland, CA 94607 (MAP IT). We will meet at 8:30PM for a 9:00PM departure time. The ride will take us around Lake Merritt, up into the hills past Piedmont and Montclair, along the ridge past Tilden Park, and down into Albany and onto Club Mallard located at 752 San Pablo Ave., Albany, CA 94706 (MAP IT). We will be riding at a moderate pace, so if you have not been in the hills at night, do not fret.

Saturday April 26 - Meet at Cole Coffee (formerly Royal Coffee) 6255 College Ave (at 63rd), Oakland, CA 94618 (MAP IT) at 9:30AM to join us for coffee and a pastry before the ride leaves at 10:30AM. This is the semi-Iron Butt ride. After last years' 125-mile ride, we figured we'd tame it down to a scant 75-miles. Don't let the 75 miles of riding scare you, the scenery will be well worth the long day ahead. The ride will take us into the Oakland/Berkeley Hills, down Skyline to Redwood Road and onto Castro Valley. From Castro Valley we will drop down Palomares Road to Niles Canyon and back up Foothill to Sunol and into Pleasanton. From Pleasanton we'll head up through Danville and Alamo and end up in Lafayette where we will stop for lunch at Bo's BBQ. After fueling up our bellies and scooters we'll be heading through LaFayette and Moraga back to the tiny backwoods town of Canyon, up Pinehurst, and back into the Oakland Hills. A short trek down Sheppard Canyon and into Montclair and we'll soon be back at Cole Coffee. Although we will not be riding too fast, this is a long ride best taken on a larger scoot if available.

Sunday April 27 -  Meet at Westside Bakery Cafe 2570 9th St. Berkeley, CA 94710 (510)845-5842 (MAP IT) at 9:30AM to join us for breakfast. The food is good, the place is busy, and the service is slow. We will attempt to depart at 10:30ish. The ride will take us along Grizzly Peak, through Tilden Park, along Briones Regional Park, and into the back hills and eventually to Port Costa where we will have lunch at the Warehouse Cafe located at 5 Canyon Lake Drive, Port Costa, CA 94569 (MAP IT). After lunch we will head back the same way, eventually dropping back into Berkeley. Please note - we will be on a 50MPH highway on Bear Creak Road by Briones Resevoir (also called the three bears), which has many uphill and downhill transitions. As with the Saturday ride, if you have a choice between a small scooter and a large scooter, take the large one.
